European moves: 7 August 2014

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.

Central & Eastern Europe

Dentons has hired White & Case’s EMEA director of strategic projects Richard Singer as its new European chief operating officer (COO) (31 July 2014). Singer will be based in Dentons’ Prague office and will report to European CEO Tomasz Dabrowski and global COO Orest Szot, who is based in Toronto. He replaces Peter Griffith, who stepped down from the role in April.

Czech firm Weinhold Legal has hired partner Miroslav Dubovský from Hogan Lovells in Prague. Dubovský was formerly managing partner at the international firm’s Prague office before its closure this summer. He focuses mainly on M&A and private equity but has also practised as an arbitrator.


Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has made its seventh German partner hire, recruiting Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s former energy co-head Dirk Hamann (7 August 2014). Hamann will be the first partner based solely in HSF’s Berlin office when he joins the firm in September. He is a corporate lawyer with a focus on regulated industries and co-headed Freshfields’ energy and natural resources group for four years, stepping down last year.


Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira name partner Emilio Cuatrecasas has stepped down as president of the firm, to be replaced by CEO Rafael Fontana (31 July 2014). The move is the final step in the firm’s succession plan, initiated in July 2012 when Fontana took over as CEO and assumed the executive powers formerly held by Cuatrecasas.

Portuguese firm Sérvulo & Associados has elected Paulo Câmara as managing partner. Camara will serve until the end of 2017 and will rely on the support of the executive committee composed of partners António Teles and Mark Kirkby.


Sorainen has hired real estate partner Laine Skopiņa and a team of lawyers from Borenius. Skopiņa joins Sorainen in Latvia and will co-head the firm’s regional real estate and construction teams. She is joining Sorainen alongside senior associates Jevgēnija Andronova and Viktorija Smirnova-Čerkasa, employment lawyer Māris Simulis and real estate lawyer Andris Vilisons.

Russia & CIS

Dentons has become the first firm to snap up one of the lawyers at Chadbourne & Parke’s Kiev office, which is closing in the next few months (6 August 2014). Chadbourne international partner Adam Mycyk has joined Dentons as a partner in its Kiev corporate practice.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired Konstantin Kroll as a partner in its M&A and private equity team in Moscow. Kroll joins Orrick from Jones Day, where he was also a partner.

Norton Rose Fulbright has appointed Julian Traill as a partner in Moscow. Corporate specialist Traill has been based in Russia since 2008 and was previously a counsel at Clifford Chance.
