Burness Paull taps MacRoberts for corporate partner Burns

Scotland’s Burness Paull has bolstered its corporate finance practice with the addition of MacRoberts partner Robert Burns.

Burns, who has been with MacRoberts since beginning his training in 1995, has worked on a range of public and private transactions throughout his career, including acting for BCW Group in the £29m private equity-backed MBO of its business process outsourcing arm and representing Germany’s TUV SUD Group on its acquisition of both the Wallace Whittle Group and the PMSS Group.

Burness Paull chairman Philip Rodney said Burns has “an amazing track record and a reputation that extends beyond Scotland”, adding: “He’ll increase our firepower in Glasgow, creating a truly leading corporate finance team across our three offices.”

The hire comes after Burness Paull added Burges Salmon senior associate Craig Whelton as a partner in Edinburgh (21 April 2014) and at the end of last year hired Brodies pensions partner Martha Quinn as a consultant in Glasgow (8 November 2013).

Burness Paull was created via the December 2012 merger of Burness with Aberdeen firm Paull & Williamsons. At the time the firm had combined turnover of £37.6m (9 October 2012), which rose to £38.7m for the 2012/13 financial year (13 August 2013). The firm, which has a July year-end has not yet released its figures for 2013/14.
