Propertology is the science and study of all things property related. Just go to any coast road in Guernsey, where there is a magnificent view of the sea. Normal people will be looking out to sea, indulging in the beauty that Guernsey has to offer. Propertologists, meanwhile, will be looking inland. These enthusiasts are likely to be the surveyors, architects, estate agents or conveyancers that have surveyed, designed, sold or conveyed those properties that enjoy the views.

Property is a passion. Those that have worked in the field for more than a few months appreciate our island a little differently. Every building tells a tale, and to us, the conveyancers, it is very often because of the title problems that were overcome to allow the potential buyers to become homemakers.

The visual aspect of what we do, the site visit, is a vital part of our work. Title deeds for a property will contain written boundary descriptions, and may refer to registered plans. However, there is no land registry in Guernsey, and this means that we need to consider the title and any plans not only of the target property but also that of every neighbour.
