Following a consultation last year, which came as a direct result of the Government’s independent review of health and safety, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed in July 2013 that it would be changing the reporting requirements under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) from 1 October 2013.
RIDDOR requires the reporting of work-related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences. It applies to all work activities, but not to all incidents. Reports produced under RIDDOR provide information to the enforcing authorities (the HSE, local authorities and the Office for Rail Regulation) about workplace incidents so that they can consider whether further investigation is required, as well as helping them to understand where and how risks in the workplace arise.
