Qatar 2022 lawyer quits as SNR Denton partner

The SNR Denton partner who played a key role in helping Qatar win its bid to host the 2022 World Cup has resigned from the firm.

Corporate lawyer Romi Nayef, who made partner in 2011 (20 April 2011), has resigned from SNR Denton’s Doha office. He is understood to have handed in his notice at the end July. The Lawyer does not know if he has taken another job.

Nayef played a key role advising Qatar on its successful bid to host the 2022 World Cup and was seconded to work for the bid committee as head of legal (6 December 2010). A spokeswoman for SNR Denton said that Nayef’s departure has not affected any continuing work.

SNR Denton’s former Doha managing partner Leigh Hall led the team that advised the Qatari bid committee, but he also left SNR Denton earlier this year (19 June 2012), with the firm citing personal reasons.

Safwan Moubaydeen, who runs SNR Denton’s associate firm in Jordan, has since been appointed to replace Hall as Doha office managing partner and chair of the Middle East regional management group.

SNR Denton was one of seven firms appointed to Qatar Railways Company’s inaugural legal panel in July 2012 (3 July 2012).
