Taylor Wessing beefs up private equity team in Germany

Taylor Wessing has strengthened its private equity offering in Germany with the hire of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom partner Walter Henle.

Munich-based Henle has joined Taylor Wessing as the firm’s German private equity head. He will be based in Munich but will work alongside Michael Stein and Christian Kleeberg in Frankfurt.

Meanwhile in Frankfurt, former Skadden partner Peter Veranneman has moved to Bird & Bird from bond company DGVA (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Vertretung von Anleihegläubigern). He will be a member of the firm’s corporate team, based in Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.

Henle and Veranneman both joined Skadden from Baker & McKenzie a decade ago, alongside Matthias Jaletzke and Bernd Mayer who are still at the US firm (15 November 2004). The team hire gifted Skadden its first instruction from private equity house Apax (25 July 2005). Veranneman joined DGVA in 2011.

Taylor Wessing’s German M&A head Klaus Grossmann said Henle’s hire would give the firm the momentum to take it to “the top of the private equity market”.

Both partners advise clients on corporate and private equity transactions, with Veranneman also advising on capital markets deals.

For Bird & Bird, Veranneman is the second partner to join the firm’s German offices in a year. Last summer the firm hired Dentons partner Bernhard Gemmel as a partner in its banking and finance team in Frankfurt (27 June 2013).

This article has been amended from a previous version which incorrectly stated that Veranneman had joined Bird & Bird directly from Skadden.
