Marcus Pallot’s practice area includes breach of trust and contractual disputes. He also has a focus on banking and regulatory work for clients located within the island comprising Jersey regulated banks, financial institutions and other regulated entities.
Pallot has a particular reputation for his ability to act practically and pragmatically, whether that is by way of achieving maximum recovery when acting for creditors or preserving assets and/or a business position while addressing creditor concerns when acting for debtors.
He is regarded as the lawyer of choice for the majority of the Jersey regulated larger banking groups in respect of distressed accounts, workouts and associated litigation work. His specialism in insolvency and bankruptcy is widely recognised and he regularly acts in respect of the reciprocal recognition of insolvency officers. He has also acted to develop the law on just and equitable winding up to address the lack of administration as a remedy in Jersey law.
Hand in hand with his insolvency practice area comes an expertise in respect of security and enforcement. As a regulatory specialist, Pallot regularly advises banks and other regulated Jersey entities in respect of the regulatory laws and their dealings with the Jersey Financial Services Commission. He is Carey Olsen’s lead partner on e-gaming and the reforms currently being made to the law on gambling in Jersey.
