Holland & Knight hires ex-DLA Islamic finance head Agha

US firm Holland & Knight has appointed DLA Piper’s former global head of Islamic finance Oliver Agha, who quit the firm in 2009 to launch is own Middle East boutique (26 January 2009).

Agha has joined the firm as a partner and will head its Islamic finance and Middle East and North Africa (Mena) practices.

For the last three years Agha has run his own Islamic finance firm based in Dubai. Upon its launch that firm, Agha & Shamsi, established a non-exclusive relationship with Pillsbury.

Agha will join Holland & Knight with a team of four associate attorneys, the firm said.

“Our practice has reached a stage in its development where we require a larger platform to fully service our clients,” Agha said in a statement. “In response to client suggestions, I’m very pleased to join Holland & Knight.”

The former head of DLA Piper’s Saudi practice left that firm in 2008 with a team of associates (13 October 2008). That move triggered the end of the firm’s relationship with its Saudi sponsor Abdulaziz Al Bosaily (26 January 2009).
