Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has added 19 associates to the partnership in its first round of promotions following the merger between Herbert Smith and Freehills, with over half based in Asia Pacific.
Among the 19 new partners, 10 are based in the Asia Pacific region with seven in the Australia offices and one each in Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore.
At the same time of the promotions, the firm has also boosted the Singapore base with the relocation of corporate partner Nicola Yeomans from Sydney to Singapore.
“The Asia Pacific region, including Australia, will be one of the key growth areas in the world over the next decade and our clients recognise we foster the right talent to maintain a seamless service across the region and the world,” said Gavin Bell, HSF’s joint chief executive partner based in Sydney.
Elsewhere, the firm has promoted four in London, two in Paris, and one each in Moscow, New York and Madrid.
In terms of practice areas, majority of the new promotions are in non-contentious practices, such as corporate, finance and projects, while seven are in dispute resolution.
“This first round of promotions since our merger brings to the partnership a hugely talented group of lawyers who have all shown the necessary international mind-set and business development aptitude to take full advantage of the global platform on which we are now operating. They will play an important role helping to shape and develop the firm as it establishes itself as a leader in the global legal sector,” said the firm’s senior partner Jonathan Scott.
