Allen & Overy (A&O) has hired Shearman & Sterling corporate partner Hans Diekmann as a partner in its Düsseldorf office.
Diekmann will join A&O later this year, although his start date is yet to be confirmed.
Shearman has lost a number of partners in Germany since the start of 2012. Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom hired three partners from Shearman over the course of the year (6 February 2012, 8 October 2012) and a duo of partners quit a year ago for independent Glade Michel Wirtz (13 April 2012).
A&O said Diekmann’s hire was an important step in the development of the Düsseldorf office, bringing the number of partners there to six. He is the third lateral hire in corporate for the office in four years, following the 2010 appointment of Christian Eichner and the arrival of Jan Schröder the following year, both joining from Hogan Lovells.
The magic circle firm recently lost capital markets partner Okko Behrends, who moved to Latham & Watkins’ Frankfurt office (19 April 2013). However the firm has been building up its IP and disputes practices in Germany over recent months, hiring Jens Matthes from Linklaters (2 May 2012) and Joachim Feldges from Field Fisher Waterhouse in IP (6 November 2012) and a team from Hogan Lovells for its disputes practice (14 December 2012).
