A paralegal who pretended to be a solicitor has been banned from working in the legal profession.

Mehran Chowdery accepted payments from clients without the knowledge of his employer, Wimbledon Solicitors, and held himself out to be a solicitor to clients and to the court while working for the firm, a decision from the Solicitors Regulation Authority said.

Chowdery’s employment was terminated in February 2014. He has now been banned from working in the legal profession without the prior permission of the SRA.

He was given a written rebuke and a financial penalty.
