The Law of Society of England and Wales is setting up a pro bono legal panel for victims of the London Bridge attack.
The panel is similar to the one created by the Manchester Law Society, launched after the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert.
The Manchester Law Society said it had received nearly 300 applications from firms, including Ashurst, Berwin Leighton Paisner and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
The Law Society of England and Wales is appealing to offers from solicitors in London in the first instance in a bid to offer free legal advice to the bereaved and injured.
Seven people were killed in Saturday night’s attack, while 48 were injured – the three attackers were shot dead by police.
Law Society president Robert Bourns said: “The legal profession is concerned and keen to offer support to those who are suffering terrible loss, injuries and other trauma.
“We will be asking London solicitor firms with the relevant expertise to register with the pro bono panel if they wish to offer legal advice and support free of charge to those affected by these terrible events.
“The panel will operate on a referral basis so that the process is as easy as possible for victims. We are reaching out to the relevant agencies in London to this end.”
The panel will be run alongside LawWorks, the solicitors’ pro bono charity and the City of London Law Society.
