Hogan Lovells and Eversheds Sutherland have both retained 80 per cent of their autumn qualifiers.

Eversheds Sutherland had the highest number of trainees up for qualification – a total of 55.

Offers were accepted by 44 trainees, equivalent to 80 per cent.

In a regional breakdown provided by the firm, it was revealed that the firm’s Newcastle office had the best retention rate of 100 per cent with all three trainees staying on. Nottingham and Cambridge had the combined lowest retention rate of 67 per cent, as two out of three trainees stayed on.

London takes on the highest number of trainees, with 14 accepting offers. Manchester is the second largest and will be home to eight newly-qualified lawyers.

Eversheds has always tended to have a large cohort of autumn qualifiers, while the number of spring qualifiers is around the 10 to 20 mark. All 12 of its spring qualifiers stayed on earlier this year.

Meanwhile Hogan Lovells also posted retention of 80 per cent, as job offers were made to 25 of the firm’s 30-strong autumn qualifiers.

A total of 24 lawyers accepted offers and will remain with the firm, including a trainee who joined from King & Wood Mallesons earlier this year.

Corporate will pick up the majority of the NQs, as 10 will join the group in London. Eight lawyers will join the firm’s finance team, while four qualify into litigation and employment and one joins intellectual property. The final trainee joins the firm’s Singapore office.

Hogan Lovells’ results are similar to those published earlier this year when 79 per cent of trainees remained with the firm.

Last autumn the firm also kept on 80 per cent of its qualifying trainees.
