Speechly Bircham has bolstered its new technology and commerce group with the hire of Faegre & Benson’s London head of IP.

Robert Bond joins Speechly to head up the technology and commerce group from the London office of the US firm. He had been part of Faegre’s IP group for 11 years.

Bond specialises in IP for the computer games and gaming sectors, data protection and information security, having advised on content, branding, licensing and IP protection issues for 27 years.

The hire gives the technology and commerce group five lawyers, and brings Speechly’s partnership count to 59.

The firm had a booming financial year in 2005-06, resulting in a 27 per cent jump in its average profits per equity partner to £465,000, while the turnover rose 17 per cent to £34m.

Bond is Speechly’s fifth lateral hire this year, following the May hire of DLA Piper litigation specialist Jim Sharkey, who was head of commercial litigation in Birmingham, and Jones Day employment partner Richard Martin.
