Ernst & Young have announced deputy general counsel Lisa Cameron is to become the next UK general counsel, replacing Victoria Cochrane to head up the 10-member in-house legal team.

Cochrane is to focus on her new role in E&Y’s quality and risk management function across northern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, as a key member of E&Y chairman Mark Otty’s leadership team.

Cochrane shot to fame following E&Y’s successful defence against the £1.3bn Equitable Life claim earlier this year after four years of litigation, and was honoured at The Lawyer Awards for her efforts in July.

Cameron, 38, joined the E&Y in-house team in 1998 and was appointed deputy general counsel in 2001 and was made partner of the firm in July this year.
