Bonelli Erede Pappalardo and Pedersoli e Associati have profited from the latest shake-up of the Italian banking industry, with both Italian firms taking lead roles on Banca Intesa’s disposal of key assets to its shareholder Crédit Agricole (CA) for €6bn (£4bn).
Name partner Sergio Erede, together with corporate partners Luca Picone and Simone Monesi, led the team at Bonelli, which advised CA. Meanwhile, partner Giovanni Pedersoli led for Banca Intesa at Pedersoli.
The disposal sees Banca Intesa selling off its regional subsidiaries, the Cassa di Risparmio di Parma e Piacenza (CariParma) and the Banca Popolare FriulAdria in addition to 193 Intesa branches across the peninsula.
Local boutique Maffei & Alberti scored a role on the transaction by advising CariParma and FriulAdria.
Banca Intesa is undergoing intensive restructuring ahead of its proposed €65bn (£43.2bn) merger with Sanpaolo IMI.
Pedersoli e Associati are also acting for the firm in that transaction, whilst Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are advising Sanpaolo IMI alongside Turin boutique Tosetto Weigmann e Associati (www.thelawyer.com 4 September).
