Leading competition and public law set Monckton Chambers has added two new tenants including a Scottish silk.
Heriot Currie QC, previously a member of Flynn Stable in Edinburgh, has a wide commercial practice including intellectual property cases. He also acts in local government cases, particularly in regard to property-related issues.
Currie was appointed silk in Scotland in 1992 and is also a member of the English bar.
Ian Rogers also joins Monckton from 3 Hare Court, where he has built up a practice specialising in human rights, employment and public law.
The hires follow recruitment at Monckton last October, which saw the arrival of Josh Holmes and Ben Rayment, both from judicial advisory roles. The set reported a slight increase in turnover between 2003 and 2004 from £8.7m to £8.9m, although average revenue per barrister dropped from £273,000 in 2003 to £247,000 last year.
Senior clerk David Hockney said Currie’s hire reinforces Monckton’s commitment to “the very best specialist advocacy”, whilst Rogers’s arrival reinforces the set’s human rights and commercial and regulatory judicial review expertise.
The appointments bring the number of tenants at the set to 38, including 12 silks.
