<a class=Macfarlanes turns to Dresdner for rare lateral hire” />Macfarlanes has recruited regulatory partner David Berman from Dresdner Kleinwort bank in an unusual move for the firm, which rarely makes lateral hires.

Berman will join the investment funds and financial services group, which is a team of 20 lawyers lead by practice head Bridget Barker.

At Dresdner Kleinwort, Berman was a managing director dealing with regulatory, compliance and business management.

Senior partner Charles Martin said the hire signalled a push by the corporate focused firm into the regulatory area, adding: “We’re confident that the huge changes that are taking place globally in financial services regulation following the credit crunch will mean our distinctive regulatory service will be attractive to both existing and new clients.”

The firm last made a lateral hire in January 2007, when it took on public law partner Ian Ginbey from Jones Day (25 January).
