Leading Spanish independent firms Cuatrecasas and Uría Menéndez have scored the lead roles on Italian energy company Enel’s e11.1bn (£9.94bn) takeover of Spanish giant Endesa.

The deal will see Enel build a controlling 92 per cent shareholding in Endesa, after two years of uncertainty over the Spanish company’s future. Enel bought Spanish energy company Acciona’s stake in Endesa to seal the takeover.

Former Allen & Overy partner Fernando Torrente led the Cuatrecasas team advising Enel on Spanish corporate issues.

Uría Menéndez advised Acciona while its Italian best friend Bonelli Erede Pappalardo worked on the other side of the deal, acting for its long-term client Enel on ;Italian ;corporate matters.

Cuatrecasas first advised Enel in 2007 when the company teamed up with Acciona to fend off German energy company Eon’s attempted ;e44bn (£39.41bn) takeover of Endesa.
