Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw is extending its Lloyd’s reinsurance practice with the hire of highly-rated reinsurance litigator Ian McKenna from Holman Fenwick & Willan.
Mayer Brown London head of reinsurance Karen Abbot has been growing the practice for over five years. McKenna, who has been a partner at Holman Fenwick since 1997, said he was keen to be part of that development.
Joint head of London litigation Sean Connolly said: “This is an area we’ve targeted. We’ve now got four partners in this area. Five years ago we weren’t particularly active [in reinsurance], but it’s now probably the fastest growing part of the group.”
McKenna said last year’s combination with Chicago-based Mayer Brown & Platt was a further attraction. “Reinsurance is a very international business. [The merger] gives us extra capability and the opportunity to be a worldwide reinsurance practice,” he said. “When Karen and Sean expressed an interest, I was very interested in joining them.”
McKenna specialises in all aspects of reinsurance dispute resolution on behalf of cedants, reinsurers and brokers in both the London and overseas insurance and reinsurance markets.
