Verhaegen scoops five-lawyer team from rival

Belgian firm Verhaegen Walravens has hired a five-lawyer corporate team from rival firm Elegis, boosting its numbers in the wake of the firm’s split with Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW).

Verhaegen has signed up Jean Pierre Renard and a group of four associates to build up the firm’s insolvency and restructuring practice.

Managing partner Philip Walravens said: “[Renard will] greatly strengthen our capabilities in a number of fields, especially insolvency and restructuring law, which we consider paramount for the future.”

Verhaegen had been FFW’s ally in Belgium before the UK firm took three of its partners to launch its own office in Brussels.

Renard’s hire increases the partnership at Verhaegen to seven.
