Phrases such as ‘talented’, ‘sharp-minded’, ‘a pleasing choice’ and even ‘a great gal’ have been bandied about more than once. But it’s the barristers who are slightly more pleased than their solicitor counterparts. But why?Well, Scotland happens to be a barrister.

One barrister, who funnily enough did not want to be named, said: “It’s a sign that the bar’s still the best breeding ground for government positions, with the new Lord Chancellor Jack Straw also being a former barrister.”
