Eversheds has slashed its regional managing partner positions as part of a national management overhaul.
The review comes less than three years after the firm’s previous management shake-up and sees the abolition of the regional head roles in favour of a slimmed-down management structure designed to simplify the system and better coordinate the firm’s regional arms.
Stephen Hopkins, head of the firm’s northern region, Cornelius Medvei, head of the eastern region and Alan Meredith, head of the central region, abandoned those positions at the end of last month.
Hopkins, Medvei and Meredith will act as the senior partners of the Leeds, London and Cardiff offices respectively, while Adrian Stanley and Michael Clavell-Bate have been appointed to newly created office senior partner positions at the firm’s Newcastle and Manchester bases.
Hopkins and Meredith have also been handed an additional brief to oversee the firm’s nine industry sector groups.
Meredith said: “The overhaul is about simplification and effectiveness and running the firm as a single entity, ensuring we work and grow together as a firm.”
The firm will instead focus on national sector group heads, office senior partners and office practice heads. Office practice heads will not receive extra remuneration for their new roles nor a lower billable hour rate. Hopkins added: “This role will evolve and some people will do it differently to others, but those performing it will not wish to dilute their client relationships or work. But we’re not expecting anyone to be a superman.”
The firm’s senior office partners in Birmingham (Sue Lewis), Cambridge (Ian Mather), Norwich (Owen Warnock), Nottingham (David Wild) and Ipswich (Brendan Padfield) will continue in their present roles.
The shake-up is Eversheds’ second management reshuffle since the firm merged its Birmingham, Nottingham and Cardiff offices into a single central region in late 2004.
