•Manchester-based Gorvins Solicitors has hired Andrew Curwen as a partner in its commercial team from Rowe Cohen.

•Bredin Prat has appointed Raphaele Courtier as a finance partner in Paris. She was previously a partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

•Washington DC-based firm Venable has appointed Patricia McDermott as senior tax legislative and policy partner from the US Congress Joint Committee on Taxation.

•Exeter-based Stephens & Scown has recruited three associates to its commercial property team. Sophie Rich Degeneve joins from the Environmental Law Foundation charity, Rima Bhattacharya joins from Kitson Hutchings and Nadine Seymoor joins from Edward Harte & Co.

•DLA Piper has appointed John MacKay as a finance partner in Singapore from Latham & Watkins.

•Nottinghamshire firm Rothera Dowson has promoted Lorna Sear to its partnership in the family team. Amy Rothera has also been promoted to associate.

Lupton Fawcett has promoted Paul Smith to director, heading the asset management department. He was previously a senior investment manager.

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has recruited Keith Biancamano as a partner in its Los Angeles office from Fulbright & Jaworski.

•Ashton Morton Slack has recruited Rachel Roebuck, a member of the Law Society’s children panel. Roebuck is also a deputy district judge on the North Eastern circuit.
