Clifford Chance has been forced to take up alternative accommodation in Moscow due to its office building catching fire.
While nobody was injured and the Clifford Chance office itself remained undamaged by the fire, which took place last Friday (6 April), the firm’s office was affected by water damage to the fabric of the building.
While alternative office accommodation has been arranged, the firm expects that it will not be able to operate from the office premises for at least a week.
Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by defective lights on the building’s facade, which then spread up the building to the roof area. The fire penetrated a number of offices, after which the building’s sprinkler system came on and prevented the fire spreading.
