What was your first-ever job?

Working for European Leisure, a nightclub company that owned such famous venues as the Camden Palace and ­the Hippodrome.

What was your worst experience as a trainee?

Spending a bank holiday photocopying.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

I’m still trying to find out.

What time do you usually leave the office?

Not as late as I used to.

What do you do at weekends?

I go to the Cotswolds for family time, to play golf and to walk the dog.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

Scott’s in Mayfair.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?

A chef.

What’s your favourite film?

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie by Luis Bunuel.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Out of the Blue by the Electric Light Orchestra.

 Who’s your hero and why?

Gareth Edwards. Simply the greatest.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The biscuits in our meeting rooms.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

The current business climate.

What’s your biggest work/ career mistake and what did you learn from it?

Thinking that my career would be a cross between LA Law and Petrocelli. I now watch less TV.

What car do you drive?

A battered Peugeot 206 GTI.

What book are you currently reading?

Hitch 22, the memoirs of Christopher Hitchens.

What’s your favourite children’s book?

The Living Tree by Shel Silverstein.

What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?

At the height of the market, acquiring for clients a landmark building in Whitehall, which went from instruction to completion in a couple of weeks.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take?

An e-reader filled with all the books that I’ve never had time to read and a solar-powered coffee machine.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?

What’s a partner conference?

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?

Twenty-four hours during my first job. I didn’t see much daylight in those days.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?

It would have to be Jimmy Smits, who played Victor Sifuentes in LA Law.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Peter Griffin – the reason’s pretty obvious really.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)

I’m proud to hold the lap record at ­Silverstone on a sit-and-ride lawnmower; Madonna played her first London concert at the Camden Palace where I worked;

I met one of the Great Train Robbers when he came to a party at my

parents’ flat.
