Cameron McKenna announced it as a legal landmark – the first law firm to open a satellite office within the client's own company.
The new office was a step ahead of traditional secondments drawing lawyer and client closer together than ever before. The reality is somewhat different.
The office, The Lawyer can reveal, is a leaky hut on a building site in Portsmouth.
Property assistants Adrian Leavey and Julie Simpson have been relocated to the site at Gunwharf Quay.
The move is part of the legal arrangement for a £100m development by construction firm Berkeley Group.
Leavey, speaking from his new office, tells The Lawyer: “Nothing similar has been done before. I am in a Portacabin.
“It's raining, and that is on the inside.
“We provide a team and literally our own Portacabin. We could put Cameron McKenna [sign] on the outside of it. We can have meetings with zero notice.
“We are providing instant service. And I have the facilities of London on tap.”
