Since its inception in 1981 Olswang has taken a number of partners from SJ Berwin, including media partner Jacqueline Hurt, corporate partner Graeme Levy and commercial litigator David Stewart.
Olswang chief executive Jonathan Goldstein also spent two years at SJ Berwin.
The news comes after SJ Berwin lost three partners in January. Sally Pinkerton joined Wragge & Co’s London real estate team, funds partner John Daghlian left to join O’Melveny & Myers and competition partner Tom Usher moved to Dundas & Wilson. It is not thought that the departures are related.
At the same time, Olswang has lost three partners – two to Hammonds and one to Trowers & Hamlins. Richard Hildebrand has joined Trowers’ corporate group. He has been at Olswang since 2001, prior to which he was at Dewey Ballantine. Hammonds has hired Alasdair Bell, who joins as UK head of competition, and advertising and sponsorship specialist Louise Quinn.
