The founder of Bindman & Partners Geoffrey Bindman QC was knighted for his services to human rights in the New Year’s Honours List. Other lawyers to be knighted included His Honour Stephen Oliver QC, presiding special commissioner and president of the VAT and Duties Tribunal, and director of public prosecutions and head of the Crown Prosecution Service Kenneth MacDonald. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Vanessa Knapp received an OBE for her services to corporate law, while Richard Grimes, the former head of pro bono for the College of Law, was also honoured. Regulators honoured included Patent Office chief executive Ronald Marchant, Gambling Commission commissioner David Steen and former Ofcom chief executive Stephen Carter. Kilburn & Strode partner Tibor Gold was awarded an MBE for services to IP.
