Diageo has filled the vacant North American general counsel role, replacing Wally Martinez who quit the company to become managing partner of Hunton & Williams.
Diageo has appointed Kellye Walker, who joins from BJ’s Wholesale Club, a $7bn wholesale club chain operating 170 clubs in 16 states across the US.
Walker will report to Diageo’s global general counsel Tim Proctor, and will be a member of the Diageo North America executive team, led by regional president and CEO Ivan Menezes
In a statement, Proctor said: “The depth of Walker’s experience makes her well-qualified to lead Diageo’s legal team in North America. I am confident she will successfully execute the department’s legal strategy in the complex regulatory environment of our industry.”
The position had been vacant for just under a year, after Martinez quit the company after little more than 12 months in the role to become the youngest managing partner in Hunton’s history.
Martinez became Hunton’s first Hispanic managing partner and the first to not be exclusively based full-time in the firm’s traditional Richmond, Virginia, headquarters. He is just the sixth managing partner in 106 year history of the firm.
