San Francisco firm Pillsbury Madison & Sutro has completed its merger with New York’s Winthrop Stimson Putnam & Roberts and pushed its own partners to head the new management team.
Pillsbury’s chair Mary Cranston heads the new firm and its managing partner Marina Park takes up the same role in the merged practice, Pillsbury Winthrop. Winthrop Stimson’s chair John Pritchard becomes vice chair of the new firm.
The combined practice has 17 offices worldwide and more than 850 lawyers in the US, London and the Pacific Rim.
The merger is one of the most significant linkups of two firms originating from both coasts of the US and has taken around six months to finalise (The Lawyer, 24 July).
