The British Coal Corporation is being sued for over u2 million for alleged breach of contract. Currall Lewis and Martin, of Handsworth, Birmingham, claim the corporation breached contracts of July 1979 and May 1981. Murphy Brothers, of London NW1, claim in respect of the alleged breaches.

Barratt Urban Construction (East London) is being sued by five people who say they have suffered as a result of noise, dirt and rats from a building site in London. The five all claim to have suffered personal injuries through the escape of dust and other noxious and offensive emissions from a site at Manor Road and Gainsborough Park, formerly the Plaistow and West Ham Railway Goods Yards in London, E15, from 1989 onwards. They also claim to have suffered as a result of dirt, flooding, noise and rat infestation on the site and accuse the company of negligence for permitting this and failing to take steps to prevent it.

A County Clare man who claims he was beaten, falsely imprisoned and maliciously prosecuted by English police has launched High Court action in London seeking compensation from Thames Valley Police. Richard Stokes is claiming damages, aggravated damages and exemplary damage for the alleged incidents. The writ says the incidents took place on and after 6 November 1991 at a disused farm on the A44 near Kidlington Airfield, and at Oxford Police Station.
