The University of North London is being sued for damages by its director of research, David Taplin. Taplin, of Down Thomas, Devon, seeks damages for breach of a contract.

A widow whose 53-year-old husband died after falling through a skylight is suing for compensation. Alice Martirossian, of London SW19, claims against Viglen, Alperton, Middlesex. Raffi Martirossian was walking on a corrugated metal roof when he fell through the perspex skylight.

Joan Dollochin, of Birmingham, has launched legal action against the estate of her former husband, Leslie, claiming £145,600 she says she has lost as a result of him failing to keep up payments on an insurance policy he was supposed to take out as part of their divorce deal. She claims that after he died last July she discovered he had not kept up payments on the policy, which was intended to be a cushion for her if he died.

The Secretary of State for Defence and Hunting-Brae, of Aldermaston, Reading, are being sued by a Swindon man who claims he suffered personal injuries as a result of negligence at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston. Charles Bridgman does not specify the nature of his injuries in his writ but says he has suffered through negligence, breach of duty, and breach of statutory duty at Aldermaston between 1985 and 1993.

The Ministry of Defence is being sued by Gary Russell, of Goole, over injuries he received at an army training camp in Northern Ireland last year. Russell, a member of the Royal Engineers, claims he was injured after being struck by one or two poles during the construction of a tripod at Long Kesh Training Camp in Belfast. The MoD is also being sued by a scientific officer, who had to take early retirement after suffering severe head a injury in an army accident. Clare Bassford's writ says she was injured in September 1993 at the Chatham, Kent, army range after bending down to pick up tools. On standing up she hit her head on colleagues' equipment.
