Clerk to a registrar (now district judge) in the principal registry.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Running in heels in the rain after my senior partner down Broad Street carrying a scale model of Birmingham Symphony Hall.

What do you do at weekends?
Visit friends and family, sleep and walk in Oxfordshire’s countryside.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
The Guildhall Tavern in Poole.
If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?
I can’t remember thinking about doing anything else.
What’s your favourite film?
12 Angry Men.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Longhaired Lover from Liverpool by Jimmy Osmond. Cringe.
Who’s your hero and why?
Until recently Arsene Wenger, but he’s testing my loyalty.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Being part of the solution for someone at one of the toughest points of their life.
And the toughest thing?
Watching parents destroy each other by use of their children.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake?
As a trainee I completed on a purchase and not the sale of a client’s house. Overnight they owned two properties and I didn’t sleep a wink. It was all resolved the next day.
It taught me never to take risks with other people’s money.
What book are you reading?
The Whistleblower by Kathryn Bolkovac and Cari Lynn.
Favourite children’s book?
The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams.
What’s the worst conference location you’ve attended?
They’re always in Birmingham.
What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
Thirty-six hours, but not since uni. We won a work-life balance award.
