Dutton joins the national firm from the West Midlands Local ­Government Association, where she was chief executive. Although based mainly in ­Birmingham, she will join the national team led by Bethan Evans and Peter Keith-Lucas. Dutton has ­previously worked at ­several local authorities and the Audit ­Commission. Evans said: “[Dutton’s] senior-level experience and legal expertise will ­further strengthen the support we can ­provide to clients at a time of difficult ­financial pressure when innovative and ­intelligent legal solutions are needed.”



Herbert Smith has named partner Stephen Murray as its global head of oil and gas. Murray became a partner in 1995, having joined the firm in 1990.

K&L Gates has hired Lawrence Graham ­partner Thomas Ross as a partner in its City ­commercial disputes practice.

Reed Smith has boosted its London employee incentives offering following the recruitment of Stephenson Harwood employee incentives head Jeremy Glover, who joins the US firm as a partner.

White-collar crime law specialist BCL Burton Copeland has admitted practice director Jonathan Cornwell to its partnership. His role ­covers strategic financial planning and ­management, facilities and HR.

Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge has hired Curtis Mallest-Prevost Colt & Mosle capital markets partner Eero Rautalahti as a partner in its London-based business law department.


Wiltshire firm Goughs has hired Richard Bebb as an associate in its family department. He will be based in the firm’s Calne and Chippenham offices. Bebb joins from Bath firm Thring Townsend Lee & Pembertons, where he was a partner.


Shakespeare Putsman has expanded its ­private client team with the recruitment of Sarah Walker as a partner in its Stratford office. Walker joins from Birmingham firm The Wilkes ­Partnership, where she was an associate.



Yorkshire firm Gordons has hired Theo ­Hoppen as a solicitor in its growing family law team. Hoppen joins from Dawsons in London, having trained and qualified at Pannone in ­Manchester.

Hull firm Williamsons has snapped up four University of Hull law graduates as two-year trainees. The quartet are Lucy Ordidge, Stephen Orridge, Lindsay Rhodes and Emma Wells.

Optima Legal has promoted Bradford-based associate Melanie Dickinson to head of the debt litigation practice. This was one of a series of appointments in the group, with Dominic ­Timmons being promoted to associate and non-­standard litigation manager and solicitor James Goodwin joining from Burr Sugden.

Manchester-based Glaisyers has expanded its costs law department with the recruitment of Chris Stott as a solicitor. He joins from ­Manchester personal injury specialist Antony Hodari & Co.


Turcan Connell has hired Bell & Scott ­corporate head Mike Kane as a partner in its ­Edinburgh office. Turcan Cornell has also made two internal promotions to the partnership, Peter Littlefield and Donald Simpson.


Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe partner Scott Stengel has joined King & Spalding as a partner in its Washington DC capital transactions and real estate group.

Ropes & Gray has boosted its Silicon Valley IP practice with the hire of Jim Batchelder as a ­partner. Batchelder joins from Howrey, where he was a member of the firm’s senior IP leadership committee.

Latham & Watkins has appointed Benton Campbell as a partner in its New York litigation department. Campbell joins after more than 16 years with the US Department of Justice.



Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe partner Niping Wu has joined the Shanghai office of Debevoise & Plimpton as international counsel, specialising in private equity.

Jones Day has hired AZB & Partners ­associate Vinay Kurien in a boost for its Singapore banking and finance practice. Kurien has worked at the Mumbai office of the Indian firm since 2007, focusing on financing and corporate debt.
