Squire Sanders Hammonds (SSH) and West End firm Collins Benson Goldhill took leading roles on HSBC’s provision of banking facilities to part of Jamie Oliver’s expanding restaurant empire.
SSH acted for longstanding client HSBC, with banking partner Iain Shurwood leading. Real estate partner Mike Shaw and corporate partner Tim Hewens also worked on the deal.
Collins Benson property principal Sammi Hsu led a team acting for Jamie Oliver’s restaurant group.
The facilities, the value of which have not been disclosed, will help the celebrity chef expand his existing Jamie’s Italian and Barbecoa chains.
Shurwood, one of a number of partners to lead the transatlantic firm’s HSBC relationship, said the deal was a sign that liquidity was returning to the market.
“From our perspective it’s the return of new money that’s exciting,” he said, adding that the deal was one of a clutch of jobs he was working on involving new bank facilities.
He continued: “This was a particularly interesting transaction given the high-profile nature of the group and the current economic climate. It also demonstrates the further development of our banking practice in the London office. This was a time-critical project that required first-rate project management.”
