Akin Gump ramps up restructuring

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is accelerating its drive into London’s lucrative bondholder market by shipping over the New York head of its financial restructuring group.

Daniel Golden, a well-known Manhattan restructuring expert, will spend one week of each month at Akin Gump’s fledgling London restructuring practice.

Late last year, Akin Gump’s Rey Stroube, the former firmwide head now in charge of the Houston and London offices, moved to the UK. Shortly after, he recruited former Herbert Smith insolvency lawyer Janet Bellwood as a partner.

Akin Gump and Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe are hoping to steal the spoils of acting for noteholders from the market leaders Bingham McCutchen and Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft.
