Taylor Wessing‘s move to new offices next year was conditional on the firm’s conversion to a limited-liability partnership, The Lawyer can reveal.

Which means the partners have had a torrid time over the past few months, poor dears. The final decision to up sticks, heavily influenced by a 2009 break clause in the lease for Carmelite (its current office), was only taken at the partner conference in March this year. Cue a frantic search for a new home.

The firm signed a lease with Land Securities last Wednesday (1 November) and will move into its new 166,000sq ft premises in the New Street Square development in 2009. Not only will its new home be – dare we say it? – Taylor-made, it will also give the firm ample opportunity to cosy up to one of its key clients and New Street Square anchor tenant Deloitte. A canny move in more ways than one.
