Clifford Chance is set to announce its new Italian managing partner, with odds-on favourite Charles Adams being voted in to the role last night.

Banking partner Adams takes over from Nicholas Wrigley, who stepped down from the role last month.

While Milan-based Adams will oversee the whole of Italy, banking partner Giuseppe De Palma will head up the Rome office.

Wrigley is leaving the magic circle firm to join renewable energy developer UPC Energy Partners, a client of the firm (as reported on www.thelawyer.com, 12 October).

He will remain of counsel to Clifford Chance in Italy, working one day a week. He had been managing partner since 2002, when his predecessor Vittorio Grimaldi defected to set up his own boutique, taking 26 lawyers with him.

Wrigley lost out on becoming global head of corporate to Peter Charlton last year.
