SIFA launches client hotline

Law firms offering financial service advice will benefit from a new initiative

All law firms offering financial service advice will receive a marketing boost this autumn with the launch of a consumer hotline and Freepost facility designed to introduce potential clients to firms.

The initiative is being handled by SIFA, the financial services network for law firms. But Ian Muirhead, managing director of SIFA, says the register will be open to its members and non-members alike.

Muirhead says: "We now have the information on law firms involved in offering financial services, and we will be promoting that by means of the hotline and Freepost service."

Members of the public will be able to use a telephone hotline or Freepost facility to obtain details of solicitor IFAs. The register will also include details of the financial services business undertaken and any specialist expertise available.

The register will include details of firms which introduce clients to other law firms dealing with financial services, as well as those which deal with life, pensions and collective investments in-house.

The launch of the scheme coincides with a series of roadshows which will visit 11 cities in October. It is aimed at firms considering whether to conduct discrete investment business in-house or act as introducer of business through permitted third party arrangements under new regulatory arrangements.

The roadshows will take place in Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Norwich, Newcastle, Gatwick, Glasgow, Nottingham, Leeds, Portsmouth, and London. SIFA hopes to drum up regional press and TV interest in presenting solicitors as an easy-to-access route to independent financial advice during its roadshows.
