The energy sector is constantly changing, and change is certainly the defining feature of the global energy production picture in 2017. In the Middle East a prolonged period of low oil prices has affected government spending, with a move towards diversification and reduced reliance on oil prompting investment in sectors such as real estate and tourism.

Moves: Paul Hastings hires Paris real estate team from KWM

Paul Hastings has appointed partner Jean-Louis Martin to lead the firm’s real estate practice in Paris. He previously held the same position at King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), while also serving as real estate co-head for Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining KWM in 2015 Martin spent 10 years as an associate at Jones Day.


Rolls-Royce: Is the risk of debarment a legitimate defence?

Rolls-Royce recently became the second company to have cited potential debarment as a justification for avoiding criminal conviction under the UK Bribery Act. A deferred prosecution agreement is a significant prize for Rolls-Royce and the judgment caught many corruption-watchers by surprise.
