Shepherd & Wedderburn, one of Scotland's big four law firms, has poached the head of corporate finance from rival Edinburgh firm Fyfe Ireland.
Stephen Gibb has also brought two assistants to the 30-partner firm.
His move from Fyfe Ireland brings the total number of partners in Shepherd & Wedderburn's corporate department to 13.
The firm's chairman James Will tells The Lawyer that Gibb's arrival is the first of a series of lateral hires planned by the Scottish giant.
Will says: “At the moment we are expanding across the board.”
He says that since the firm reorganised into practice areas a year ago it has seen growth in areas including corporate finance, financial services, banking, intellectual property and construction.
“Since formalisation of practice groups we are identifying more areas which are expanding rapidly, where we need more people,” says Will.
Dundas & Wilson has poached litigation partner Andrew Renton from Edinburgh firm Simpson & Marwick. Renton joins the firm, linked to accountancy giant Arthur Andersen, in August.
