Norton Rose has recruited London criminal law specialist Neil O’May. He is a longstanding Bindmans partner and head of the crime group.

Move of the week

O’May acted for Labour Party fundraiser Lord Levy during the so-called ‘cash for honours’ scandal and is set to join the UK firm’s business ethics and anti-corruption group.



Tech City-based boutique DKLM has appointed paralegal Cynthia Zhang. She previously held an in-house role at tech company Phorm Inc.

Banking and asset-based lending partners Andrew Watson and Jon Bew have joined Irwin Mitchell from Squire Sanders, where they were both partners. Watson will be based in London as head of finance and Bew will work out of Birmingham.

Russell Jones & Walker has appointed Thalis Vlachos as senior solicitor from Shoosmiths, where he was employment department head. Employment solicitor Raja Nadarajan has also joined from Simmons & Simmons.

Weil Gotshal & Manges has taken on Hogan Lovells partner Alex Wood as a partner in its London restructuring practice.

Hodge Jones & Allen has promoted Daniel Fitzpatrick (housing), Daniel Godden (crime), Anna Thwaites (civil liberties) and Anita Rattan (personal injury) to the partnership.

Clinical negligence solicitors Agata Usewicz and Emma Wray, civil liberties solicitor Sasha Barton, housing solicitor Sophie Bell and personal injury solicitors Leticia Ison-Jacques and Vidisha Joshi have all been promoted to associate.

Speechly Bircham has added private client lawyer James Trafford as a partner from Wilsons in Salisbury, where he was head of private client.


Pardoes has boosted its family team with a trio of hires from Foot Anstey. Maggie Roberts joins as a partner and head of family and is joined by solicitor John Brimble and chartered legal executive Carole Newstead.

Hart Brown has appointed specialist property litigator Simon Wood to its commercial business department as a barrister. He was previously a private practice barrister in Middle Temple.


Matt Ainsworth

Matt Ainsworth has joined Irwin Mitchell as a partner in the business legal services team based in Sheffield. He moves from DLA Piper, where he was a legal director.

Solicitor Rachael Davis has joined Williamsons in Hull after completing her training contract at Halliwells in Sheffield.


Weightmans has added to its insurance team in Leicester by hiring Stephen Robb as a partner from Shakespeares in Nottingham, where he was also a partner.

Browne Jacobson has appointed partner Paul Wainwright as head of counter-fraud services. He joins from Greenwoods in Milton Keynes, where he was head of liability fraud.

Brechin Tindal Oatts has hired Seonaid Busby as a partner in its insurers representation team from Biggart Baillie, where she was an associate.


Litigation partner Noreen Howard has joined the Dublin office of DAC Beachcroft, covering the insurance market. She was a partner at Matheson Ormsby Prentice.


Simmons & Simmons has hired Wolfgang Kotzur as a finance partner in Frankfurt. He joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a counsel.

Charles-Antoine Leunen has joined Linklaters as a partner in its Belgian banking and capital markets practice based in Brussels. He was previously a partner in the finance and corporate group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Brussels.

Goltsblat BLP, the Russian practice of Berwin Leighton Paisner, has hired Kyle Davis as a partner in its corporate and M&A practice. He was a counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Middle East

Clyde & Co has brought in Rebecca Ford as a partner in the firm’s employment and incentives team in the Middle East from Al Tamini & Company, where she was a partner.


Indian firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co has appointed Krishan Malhotra as head of tax in the northern region of India. He previously held an in-house role at KPMG.

Energy project finance specialist Nomita Nair has left the London-based senior associate, energy and infrastructure group of Allen & Overy to become a partner in the finance practice at Berwin Leighton Paisner, based in Singapore.

King & Wood Mallesons has strengthened its native title practice with the lateral hire of partner Scott Singleton to its Brisbane office from Minter Ellison, where he was a partner in the energy and resources group.

Clifford Chance has elected capital markets partner Eiichi Kanda as the new managing partner of its Tokyo office, replacing Peter Kilner after his four-year term.
