Eversheds beats back rivals for Redrow work

Eversheds has overcome competition from two other firms in a pitch to become the legal adviser to housebuilder and commercial property developer Redrow.

The firm has been appointed to advise Redrow on its commercial property work and on any residential work which is unable to be resourced in-house.
Redrow has a large in-house legal team and this is the first time it has outsourced work. It will continue to keep jobs in-house and will turn to Eversheds only when the team has too much work.
The Eversheds tender was a joint pitch between the commercial development sector group and the housebuilding sector group.
Eversheds head of the housebuilders sector group Gerard Relph said: “Redrow has an expert in-house housebuilding team and there is a great deal of respect on both sides. What it is looking for is a national firm which it can go to if it is stretched.”
The work will be given to the firm on a regional basis.
In June, Eversheds reorganised its property group into five sectors to target commercial developers, housebuilders, property investors, property finance and end users.
Relph said that although the strategy is to target core areas of the market rather than the competition between offices, a different approach might mean different regions looking at the same client.
It is understood that Clarke Willmott & Clarke was not invited to tender despite its recruitment of Redrow legal director Karen Wallis in June.
Relph said that he believes Eversheds won the work because of its approach to the provision of legal services. “We have specialist housebuilding skills in a number of offices and all the regions work together in a coordinated manner.”
