Deutsche Bank

Herbert Smith’s real estate department has a longstanding relationship with Deutsche Bank, but this is the first time it has advised the bank on a major new building, rather than one it has historic knowledge of.
Led by partner Brian Curwen, this deal means Deutsche Bank will use DigiPlex’s 104,000sq ft site as part of its global data centre strategy, freeing up space in its central London offices. The bank will provide its own IT equipment and staff. Mandeep Ubbey (real estate) and Olivia Bateman (construction) assisted.
The lease was based on the standard institutional 20-year lease, but was negotiated in order to give Deutsche Bank flexibility if it wanted to install high-specification mechanical and electrical equipment. Deutsche Bank uses a number of firms for real estate. Herbert Smith recently acted opposite the bank for Hammerson, when it granted a lease at 99 Bishopsgate. Linklaters & Alliance advised the bank.
