Gun amnesty compensation

The House of Lords has adjourned consideration of a Home Office challenge to moves by a gun owner who is seeking to sue over its alleged failure to pay compensation. David Steed claims he handed in his firearms in July last year in accordance with the terms of the Firearm (Amendment) Act 1997, but by October had still not received compensation. He launched county court proceedings against the Home Office, which is seeking leave to appeal against a county court and Court of Appeal dismissal of its application to strike out the claim. The application has been adjourned to give Steed an opportunity to object to it.
