THE Reverend Jesse Jackson was due to give the keynote speech on the criminal justice system at the American Bar Association (ABA) conference as The Lawyer went to press.
The conference is set to be one of the biggest ever, with 10,000 delegates and 3,000 guests at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
William Ide III of Atlanta is handing over the ABA presidency to George Bushell of
Detroit and Roberta Cooper Ramo of Albuquerque is to be elected the ABA's first woman president-elect.
Organising the conference is a major feat. Some 70,000 tonnes of fax machines, copiers and computers arrived in four 48-foot lorries last week.
More than half-a-million documents will be printed for delegates and journalists and organisers have set themselves a 100 per cent recycling target.
