Simmons’ construction head quits for HBJ

Simmons & Simmons head of construction Robert Bryan has exited the firm for HBJ Gateley Wareing.

Bryan has joined the Midlands firm as an equity partner, launching the London construction practice, which will target both contentious and non-contentious work.

HBJ national chairman and head of the London office Bijan Sedghi told the Lawyer that the firm is looking to bring on six lawyers to the newly-established team over the coming year.

Bryan specialises in the contentious side of construction, having experience in litigation, arbitration, ajudication, mediation and conciliation, however he has also worked on UK projects work including PFI contracts.

Clients include Atkins, BP Amoco, Fitzpatrick, Nationwide Building Society and Tubelines.

HBJ opened in London in May 2007 via a merger with shipping firm Shaw and Croft. The office will develop shipping, corporate, corporate recovery, property, construction and banking expertise, according to Sedghi.

Simmons & Simmons and Bryan were unavailable for comment.
