Kazakhstan gets lesson in UK law

THE Law Society is sponsoring a scheme by the College of Law to explain the UK and European legal systems to Kazakhstan lawyers.

Coral Hill, a senior lecturer who works for the College of Law's Legal Network Television, will run a one-week course in the Kazakhstan capital, Almaty, in September for 40 senior local lawyers.

She said it will be the first time Kazakhstan lawyers will have had the chance to look at European legal systems.

Hill said initial training would concentrate on the UK legal system and the impact EU legislation had on it.

She said that the course would also cover working methods, marketing and client-lawyer relations.

“With the imminent expansion of the EU there is increased interest throughout the republics in the CIS in EC law, and UK law in particular,” explained Hill.

“We hope to expand this one-week session into a much longer course backed by training videos.”

She added: “We shall be looking for further funding from the British government.”
