East Sussex County Council is being taken to the High Court by three local authorities in its area in a £1.3m claim over the cost of coastal protection work. Eastbourne Borough Council, Hastings Borough Council and Rother District Council are claiming damages for alleged breach of a series of agreements which relate to coastal protection schemes. The three councils are suing for £216,458, £549,967 and £563,180 respectively, which they claim is due to them under the agreement. Among other things, when the case reaches court they will accuse the county council of breaches of its statutory duty under the Coast Protection Act 1949.
